Maciej Szydłowski

The first winner of the Kamil Duszenko Award is Maciej Szydłowski.

Dr. Szydłowski has been awarded for his three publications:

(1) FOXOl activation is an effector of SYK and AKT inhibition in tome nLn.. signal-dependent diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (Blood, 2015)

(2) FOXOl Transcription Factor: A Critical Effector of the Pl3K-AKT Axis in B-Cell Development (International Reviews of Immunology, 2014)

(3) FOXOl is a TXN- and p300-dependent sensor and effector of oxidative stress in diffuse larPe R-cell lvmnhomas characterized bv increased oxidative metabolism (Oncogene, forthcoming).

Maciej Szydłowski studied at the University of Silesia in Katowice (September 2000 May 2005), where he obtained M.Sc. in Biology. He performed his diploma work: “Generation of the promoter deletion constructs of the human tumorous imaginal discs (htid) and neighbour of tid (hnot) genes” in frame of the Erasmus/Socrates Scholarship at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (Germany), under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ursula Kurzik-Dumke. After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Microbiology at the home University in Katowice (11.2005 – 09.2006).

In September 2006, he was awarded with a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Scholarship for PhD studies he performed at the University in Mainz, in the Comparative Tumor Biology group leaded by Prof. Kurzik-Dumke (2006 – 2011). In April 2011, he defended his PhD thesis: “Identification and characterization of the regulatory elements and factors of the human tumor suppressor gene tumorous imaginal discs (htid)”.

Afterwards, he moved back to Poland, and since October 2011 he is working as a post-doc in the Institute of Hematology in Warsaw, in Department of Experimental Hematology leaded by Prof. Przemysław Juszczynski. His scientific interests are molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of cancer.
